Tournament Weekend!
Rosters.
The YELLOW denotes the team captains. My thanks to James, Steve, Derryl and Paul for taking this on. Especially Paul who'll have to deal with The Beechey and Mason's super powers. Paul, god help you if you call him anything other than "The Beechey". His friggin' priest calls him The Beechey now. Also, Scott, The Beechey, Bob, Dennis and Cal all like to play shortstop. Should work out fine.
Oh, the guys in blue I should have changed....that just denotes that they have some conflicts in there schedule and is in no way related to the ongoing PED investigation.
The captains have all signed off theirs and each others rosters, know how to deal with subs and manage the particulars of the game. Lets have some fun with this gang!
Schedule:
About the schedule....We wanted to make sure that all teams that got a minimum 4 games in the tournament.
At the end of the round robin, the 1st place team will automatically go to the final at 4:45 on Sunday night. The 2nd and 3rd place teams in the standings will play an elimination game in advance of the final for the right to make it to the last game.
See you all on Saturday Morning!
Thanks:
Our league captains to a good job of communicating the message of getting involved very well as a rule. Some are quieter than others about it. But in particular, I'd like to thank Bo, Pully, The Beechey, Rob Farah and Bob Candy who beat the bushes to find people and dug out email addresses and phone numbers for me at less than convenient times. Not to dismiss other peoples hard work, but thanks fellas.
The Game
On August 14th,
2013, the Grisslies reached a major milestone.
For the first time in franchise history they became the league’s first
team to clinch a playoff spot!
The BLOG was onsite
for this monumental occasion to get quotes from some of the players.
BLOG: [Yelling over the crowd] Gord Dol, you’ve
shuffled between 1st base and outfield all year, how did you manage
to keep it together?
Gord: [Yelling]
Prayer. I pray a lot. I have to thank Jesus for this
opportunity. And Rob Farah of course. That goes without saying. I never thought I’d be in this position to
clinch so early! What a season!!!
BLOG: [Yelling] Brad Wadden, you were 5 for 5 in
the clinching game. How does that make
you feel?
Brad: [Screaming]
Top of the world baby!!! This
kind of stuff doesn’t usually happen to me, its like, WOW; Radical in a tubular
kind of way. Wooooooo!
BLOG: [Yelling] Dave Muirhead, you’ve worked with
multiple pitchers over the year and yet you’ve been able to maintain your
consistency can you tell us about that?
Dave: [Subdued]
Its really about focus and keeping your eye on the prize. I’m a little put off by this celebration, we’ve
accomplished nothing yet. Nothing at
all. Sure, we finished last and that
achieved one of our goals. And ya, we
were the first to clinch and that was another goal. But we’re still 2 losses away from recording
the worst season ever. We have to stay
focused! If we blow it now, its all for
naught.

Doris Casullo, come on over here.
[Arm around Doris] Doris, there’s only one thing to ask, how do you do
it? Year after year, you just don’t
waver. How?
Doris: [In his monotone voice] Sorry, I’m a little overwhelmed right now by
what’s been accomplished here today.
This is a great group of guys here and I’m simply honoured that they’ve
gravitated to my natural leadership as I brought us to this place of
glory.
BLOG: [Yelling] Rob Farah....All these years with the
Grisslies. The championships. The batting titles. The legend just continues to grow. You’re comments?
Rob: [Crying] There are....there are.....there are no words.
BLOG: [Yelling] Rookie Rick Greenfield! 1st year in the league and this
kind of hubbub surrounding you? What do
you think?
Rick: [Screaming]
F’N A Cotton; F’N A!!!!
There you have it,
live from the Keogh Park field in the midst of the celebration. Oh, the BLOG has a free beer ticket if you
can identify where the “Rick & Brad quotes” came from.
But you have to comment on the BLOG to collect.
See you Saturday!

I'll take that for a beer ticket, Alex...
ReplyDeleteWhat is "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story"?
@Karen Turner.....nice job! So far you have half a ticket! For the other half of the ticket, what movie does Brad's "Radical ..... " quote come from?
DeleteGoogle is a big help on this, but congrats on nailing Dodgeball. How that didn't win an Oscar I will never know.
Kanye and Dodgeball
ReplyDeleteNo name which makes an award difficult. However, its wrong anyway so best to be anonymous. LOL
DeleteBull Durham
ReplyDeleteMmmmmmm beeeeeeer
CORRECT!!!!! In an act of compassion, Danny Boy and Karen the sky jumper Turner will be drinking a free beer Saturday courtesy of the BLOG - thanks for playing.
DeleteThanks Doug, and I definitely agree with the Oscar snub.....my personal favourite lines in the movie....
ReplyDeleteCotton McKnight: Looks like it's gonna be a two-on-one, a ménage-â-trois of pain.
Pepper Brooks: Usually you pay double for that kind of action, Cotton.
Classic....
